Welcome to year 2 & 3 of the Winchendon Public Schools' New Teacher Induction Program. Within this venue, we will reflect on last year's practice and develop goals for advancing our instructional practice toward continuous professional growth. Each teacher will develop a portfolio with artifacts to document how they have addressed their professional goals for the 2011-12 school year. The mentoring course is a 36 hour course in Mentor Skill training for Winchendon teachers with over five years experience, a communication style that adapts to individual differences and has a commitment to constant learning about improving teachers’ instructional practice. This course builds skill in observing, analyzing, diagnosing and being articulate about skillful teaching. It is expected that mentors will attend the one day New Teacher Induction training with their assigned new teacher prior to the start of the school year, commit to weekly mentor-new teacher meetings which can be applied flexibly, demonstrate lessons or management techniques and will link beginning teachers with other resource people within the school and district.
