  • The purpose of this course is to explore interactions that have taken place through trade, conflict and accident, among peoples of the world from the Age of Exploration (fifteenth century) to the present day. This course continues students’ study of world history, with an emphasis on the emergence of strong states, distinctive national identities, the development of new technologies and transformative ideas and, finally, the continuing development of global trade networks.

  • Welcome to sixth grade English! This year we will work on reading and analyzing a variety of texts, from Renaissance drama to more modern novels and poetry. We will look at the language, events, choices, values, knowledge, and actions that create plot and character development. In writing workshop we will work on organizing, drafting, proofreading and revising expository and creative writing pieces. We will study and perform Shakespeare’s As You Like It. We will occasionally do a collaborative project with History 6. This course will also emphasize vocabulary and the grammatical structure of the English language.

    In this course, we will learn scientific principles that explain the physical world in which we live. In addition, we will focus on the development of analytical reasoning, scientific inquiry and problem-solving skills. Laboratory experiments, engaging discussions and other group activities will all be important parts of our exploration of physics.

  • Biology is the study of life. In this course, we will explore the diverse characteristics of living things, beginning with the tiny atoms and molecules that comprise living organisms and extending to the complexity of functioning of entire organisms and systems. Course topics include science as a process, ecology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, biotechnology, evolution, taxonomy, and human anatomy & physiology. Our study of Biology will develop skills of scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and organizing information.
