  Semester 1 College Prep English:
  

  This semester course consists of reading novels and plays that share the common theme of element and surprise. While all elements of fiction are emphasized, the element of suspense is a key focus of the class. Students will learn to recognize devices of suspense in both the reading and films. The essential question that drives the course is what keeps the reader or viewer interested in the plot. Students will address this question in the form of writing and class discussion. Students will expand their knowledge of diction through contextual vocabulary and also cover grammar rules. Students will be expected to write a focused research paper.   HEALTH COURSE DESCRIPTION

  This course is designed to give students an understanding of the aspects of health as it affects their physical, mental and social well being. The focus of this course is to help students identify healthy and unhealthy behaviors and will lay the foundation for the practice of health enhancing behaviors. Topics such as nutrition, physical activity, accident prevention, communicable diseases, tobacco, alcohol and other drug prevention, social, sexual and emotional health will be covered during this semester.
